Tour Guides as Cultural Interpreters

While intercultural competence has become a key qualification in the "global village", it is not an integral part of tour guide training programmes. With "Intercultural Motivation Seminars for Tour Guides in Developing Countries", the Studienkreis für Tourismus und Entwicklung e.V. (Institute for Tourism and Development) has taken the initiative to fill this gap. As Ursula Günther reports, the seminars encourage tour guides to build bridges between different cultures. Using a variety of methods, the seminars provide a space for reflection and change of perspectives.
